Dividends benefit investors by keeping them focused on cash flows rather than stock price. But I think the real benefit might be that they focus management on shareholder return and limit the opportunity to empire build at the expense of shareholders.

Hey Nelly, but what about investing in hyper fund. You get a little professional looking spreadsheet that tells you that you are richer every day. It looks really impressive until you actually try to take any money out of the fund and it all collapses on you. However my friend swore by it about a year ago when I laughed at him and told him its a scam. He doesn't talk to me anymore for some reason. Also his brother told me not to ask about it because apparently it's a sore point. :)

Love dividends too. I get a lot of flak for it, including from Ben Felix Supposed investing genius, replying to my comments personally (interesting exchange) when he called all dividend investors "stupid" in a video.
